SPRING Information Session – Mombasa
On Tuesday, February 17, 2015, the team was excited to host a successful information session on SPRING, which is a pioneering accelerator program by GrowthAfrica that supports businesses whose products and services could transform the lives of adolescent girls. The session attracted quite an audience with an attendance of close to 50, as the GrowthAfrica Kenyan Team introduced themselves, their partners, played a small video and explained about the program.
The audience had a lot to learn and discover about SPRING and why it specifically targets girls. And we couldn’t quote the reason better than what is already on its website; “When girls have the freedom to learn, earn, and save without harm, families become stronger both economically and socially, student numbers increase, agricultural productivity goes up, while rates of child marriage, teen pregnancy, and HIV/AIDS go down.
Girls therefore have a unique ability to transform lives and end the cycle of intergenerational poverty. This is the “Girl Effect”. Now that Mombasa has been enlightened on this amazing opportunity for our girls, it’s our greatest hope that we can get as many startups and businesses to apply for our society to progress and reach the heights we all envision. A community is only as strong as its people, so why not strengthen every community member, including girls.
This is also a brilliant chance for those businesses whose products or services are centered and designed for girls to get finance, world-class mentors, and technical expertise. Talk about hitting the jackpot for those businesses that will make it into the accelerator. For those of you who missed out on this interesting day, here are some snapshots to what transcended.
